Ohio is presently following the 1851 version of the Ohio Constitution. The Ohio Constitution had undergone series of amendments till 2006. The Preamble thanks the God for the freedom the people of Ohio are enjoying and looks forward to common welfare programs. The Preamble begins with “We, the people of the State of Ohio, grateful to Almighty God for our freedom, to secure its blessings and promote our common welfare, do establish this Constitution.” Article 1 of the Ohio Constitution declares the Bill of Rights which deals with Inalienable Rights, Right to Assemble, Rights of Victims of Crime, Rights of conscience, Education, Religion and Knowledge, Freedom of Speech, Trial for crimes etc.

The Ohio Constitution deals with legislative issues in the Article 2, Executive issues in Article 3 and Judicial issues in Article 4. The Article 5 discusses the Elective Franchise which includes the topics like “Who may Vote”, “My Ballot”, “Names of Candidates on ballot”, “Primary Elections” and “Eligibility of Officeholders”. Article 6 of the Ohio Constitution deals with a very significant issue and that is education. The constitution states the rules and regulations regarding the funds for religious and educational purposes, school funds, function of State board of education, Public school system etc. This article is basically a guideline to the upcoming educational programs. The section on Public Institutions cover the interests of blind, deaf, dumb and insane.

The Ohio Constitution states the election procedure in Article 17 and this section describes certain political phenomena like the time for holding offices and terms of officers. Article 12 is a very important section and here we get to know about the finance and taxation policies of Ohio government.
