Located in downtown Cincinnati in the US state of Ohio, The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is one of the biggest and busiest public libraries in the world with its 41 regional and local branches situated all over Hamilton County. Till the year 2006, The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is the 9th biggest library of the country with around 9,148,846 volumes included in its collection. The library received the 8th rank in the 2006 Hennen's American Public Library Ratings.

The library was started as a subscription library in 1802. On the 14th of March, it was declared The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County. Since its establishment the library has been placed at various locations along with its present location at Eight Street and Vine Street.
The collections of the library are comprised of books, magazines, newspapers, audio books, videos, CDs, DVDs, CD-ROMs, slides, sheet music, microfilm, microfiche, Braille, digital audio and e-books. The library also provides complimentary Internet and Wi-Fi access. The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County also offers complimentary programs every year for supporters of every age. The staffs of the library responded to 1.7 million phone calls, fax, e-mails, posts and live queries. The official website of the library offers admittance to the library catalogue, the online chat KnowItNow, HomeworkNow and around 150 databases of commercial research, lists of bestsellers, recommendations of staff reading and other resources of information. The services for special requirements offered by the library comprise Braille and “talking books”. Its extended services include the books which sent by post, materials for foreign language studies and bilingual programs and applications for passport. The literacy services comprise GED practice testing and GED classes.
