The Columbus Metropolitan Library has achieved the #1 rank in the US by the 2005 Hennen’s American Public Library Index and in 2006, the library was ranked #3 for offering service to 500,000 or more persons. With 22 locations all across the city, the Columbus Metropolitan Library is situated at favorable positions in almost every locality in the city.

The Public Library and Reading Room was founded in the year 1873 in the famous New City Hall and since then has extended to a Main Library and 20 branch libraries. The collection at the library is at present comprised of 3 million objects. But the library is an organization of devoted librarians who have dedicated themselves for the well being of the community by assisting children to learn reading, directing new Americans to vital resources and guiding entrepreneurs to useful business info and sharing great writings with people. Each day, the organization of Columbus Metropolitan Library is making an impact on a person’s life which is there for the last 125 years.
The mission of the Columbus Metropolitan Library is “to promote reading and guide learning in the pursuit of information, knowledge, and wisdom.” They achieve their goal by offering services to the general mass through providing English for Speakers of Other Languages, Summer Reading Clubs, complimentary admittance to all-embracing databases and many more. The library system of the Columbus Metropolitan Library is one of the most-used library systems of the US. Columbus Metropolitan Library is comprised of the Main Library, Outreach Services Division along with its 20 branches which are advantageously positioned all over Franklin County. Columbus Metropolitan Library also offers joint services with Worthington Libraries by operating the Northwest Library. The resources of CML are shared with the Worthington Libraries and Southwest Public Libraries.
